Here at the Send Me Your Ears studio today, we’ve been listening to the latest single from Atari Pilot. Atari Pilot, from Swindon, UK, released the single, Train of Life, on 17th April 2023.
Train of Life is a track from the band’s forthcoming album. It speaks of the universal experience of seeking direction in life. The band released their debut single in 2011, and have been creating music and winning fans since then. Their songs explore love, loss, and self-discovery themes, and encourage listeners to embrace their own journeys with courage and hope.
Train Of Life is Indie synth-based rock at its finest. The song grabs your attention immediately with 80s-feeling dance vibes and carries the listener in a nostalgic burst of euphoria right to the very end.
The vocals are heavily reverbed when they join the mix, and are perfectly suited in style to this type of music: reminding us a little of Simple Minds, but with a more current Daft Punk/ One Republic feel.
We love the distant saw-lead-style synth and the layered vocals that soar over the song. We could see this track doing well on the night club scene. It feels perfect to dance to and has great commercial appeal.
The changes in rhythms make this exciting, and the rise and fall keeps the listener engaged. We particularly love the sections where the bass and synth follow each other. There is also a superb breakdown section with some great effects on the vocals, which then leads you back out into that gorgeous dance-along chorus.
Ideas from our ears
A couple of small EQ cuts in the 500-700Hz range could reduce some ‘honky/nasal’ tones in the vocal track. This may also help to make the vocals come through a little clearer during the fuller parts of the song. As always, these are just some ideas from our ears.
Atari Pilot’s, Train Of Life, is a soaring indie rock/pop, heavily laden with synths that create a euphoric and slightly nostalgic feel to a song which has great commercial appeal. Recommended!
