Here at the Send Me Your Ears studio today, we’ve been listening to the latest single from Gary Dranow. Day I Was Born was released on 7th April 2023.

Dranow, from Park City, United States, has been a regular feature on the Send Me Your Ears blog. He is a prolific songwriter and recording artist, and the singles we’ve reviewed to date all lead up to the release of his album, Destiny Road on May 12, 2023. To celebrate the release of Destiny Road, Gary Dranow and The Manic Emotions will be performing at The Cabin on Main Street, Park City on May 12th, 2023.

Day I Was Born is a standard blues rock shuffle. A straightforward 12 bar blues chord progression gives the musicians plenty of opportunity to solo. The song has a jam band feel to it, which we can see translating well in front of a blues-rock audience in a live setting. The recording itself has a very live and off-the-floor feel to it.

A Hammond sits nicely underneath the main instrumentation of drums, bass and guitar, and occasionally takes centre stage for a solo. There are plenty of guitar solos for blues-rock guitar fans to sink their teeth into, while the bass and drums provide the setting for the solos to fill the listeners’ ears.

Vocally, Dranow’s voice is dominant in the mix, with heavy bathroom-style reverbs and delays on it. His voice is a very typical blues rock style and would sit well alongside the likes of George Thorogood.

With musical influences including Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughn, Gary and The Manic Emotions have made a name for themselves in the Blues and Rock music scenes. Day I Was Born features Jerry Manfredi and Jethro Defries on drums and bass. The Keyboard work is provided by Tommy Mars (Frank Zappa Band).

We wish Gary Dranow and the Manic Emotions well with their forthcoming album release and look forward to hearing more great music.
