Here at the Send Me Your Ears studio today, we’ve been listening to the debut single from Into The Light. Manuscript is released on 14th April 2023, and for fans of anthemic shoegaze and alt-rock, you can’t go wrong with this track.
Manuscript fades in slowly with sinister-feeling synths and strings sounds. Bright, clear, punchy and powerful drums join the mix, along with a beautiful guitar riff.
When the vocals come in, they have a cathedral-like reverb on them, reminiscent of Depeche Mode. The bass and drums lead the verses, with some subtle incidental guitar lines punctuating the gaps between lyrics.
Manuscript explodes in your ears at the chorus, with some gorgeously heavy and driven guitar. The chorus also adds in some extremely well-placed, delicate harmony notes that bolster the lead vocal perfectly.
Gently rising and falling throughout, this almost five-minute track is a slow burn that pays off. Manuscript feels like a great song for a late-night playlist. It is a heavy and driven track with smooth and gentle vocals. We absolutely loved the precision between the bassist and drummer. Superb stuff!
The musicianship is evident throughout this track. Each member of the band is given plenty of space to shine, and the drum fills, in particular, really impressed us. A simple but effective guitar solo develops towards the end, with a repeated vocal line joining in before the guitar gently blends into the distance over a long fade-out section.
Formed in 2022, the single was recorded at More Sound with producer Steve Sopchak in Syracuse, NY. In addition to this release, Into The Light will release a second single ‘Bridge’ and are currently working on their debut full-length album, scheduled for late 2023.
Ideas from our ears
A hi-pass filter at 35Hz would remove some sub-bass rumble. A careful cut at 220Hz would reduce a slight peak coming from the snare. A boost around 12kHz would increase the overall brightness in the track too. As always, these are just some ideas from our ears.
Manuscript is an impressive and creative debut single from the promising New York-based band, Into The Light. We’re very much looking forward to hearing more!
