Here at the Send Me Your Ears studio today, we’ve been listening to the latest single from Joe Bygraves. Someone Else was released on March 31st, 2023, and is an instant and catchy earworm for fans of indie pop.
Someone Else comes straight in with a full band sound, and instantly gives an anthemic feel to the track. There is so much happening at the start of the song that you can’t help but be totally engaged by the track. With soaring choruses of vocals used as a lead instrument, the track feels positively euphoric.
Dropping back to a more acoustic guitar-led first verse, Joe’s vocals are modern and current sounding. You can clearly hear his accent in the vocal track (which is something we always love to hear), and the vocal combined with the drum pattern gives the song a real Britpop feel.
Bygraves has some superb tricks in his vocal toolbox, effortlessly moving from moments of twang and belt into more gentle and earnest moments. His flip from chest to head voice is superb and there’s a real effortlessness about his singing that makes it even more charming to listen to. There are also some beautiful and subtle layered harmonies in places.
That all-important second verse adds in some extra vocal effects and echoes to maintain the listeners’ interest, and by the time the chorus comes around again, we don’t doubt that you’ll be singing along.
We love the gentle breakdown with more echo effects on the vocals and a build to die for that bursts back into the chorus, leading to a gentle acoustic guitar ending.

Ideas from our ears
This track has a very strong sound right from the start. A wide boost centred around 60Hz could further increase the low-end impact. A surgical cut at 215Hz could bring the snare down a touch. A cut around 750-800Hz could reduce some ‘honky’ background tones, most noticeable in the choruses. As always, these are just some ideas from our ears.
Final thoughts
Joe Bygraves is an ambitious and talented British singer-songwriter. His latest single, Someone Else is a fine example of his quality writing and performing skills. We’re excited to be following the career of this fresh young artist.
