KILLING AURA – LIMITLESS

Here at the Send Me Your Ears studio, we’ve been listening to Killing Aura’s latest single, Limitless, released on November 25th, 2022.

Nottingham (UK) based Killing Aura consists of Frontman Chris Gordon, Guitarist Tom Burrows, Bassist Ben Lanckham and Drummer Danny Gage.

When the track first starts, we drew instant comparisons to Muse. The drum pattern and the crunching guitars give the song a definite indie melodic rock feel.

When the vocal line comes in, frontman Chris Gordon sounds a little like a cross between Liam Gallagher and John Lennon. There is a gravel and passion in the delivery, giving the song a slight Britpop feel as well. We like how the guitar line followed the vocal line at times, giving the voice an extra bit of drive and power.

The guitar solo follows a repeated riff before stopping completely and returning to the chorus. Apart from the brief stop, this track is an onslaught of power and attitude. There’s a touch of punk in the delivery. The repeated guitar pattern gets stuck in your head and you’ll be humming it for days afterwards.

Killing Aura are a band that we imagine are at their best in a live situation. There is plenty of evidence of quality musicianship here, and from the couple of live videos we looked at of them, they clearly put on a great show.

Limitless may be a track to pitch for a sync placement in a TV show. It is similar in style throughout, and this steadiness could be its selling point for a music supervisor.

Ideas from our ears

To our ears, a little less on the compressors/limiters would allow the track to breathe a little more. The overall mix is great and the balance of frequencies throughout is both full sounding and bright.

Final thoughts

Killing Aura are very clearly an ambitious band. We have no doubt that they will have a busy 2023 and look forward to hearing what they come up with next.
