OK … so… what…?
We were introduced today to Cornwall (UK) based four piece band, KLEN, with their debut single, Down The Pen. The team here at Send Me Your Ears have had a few listens and honestly, we’re still just a touch bemused!

Clearly, KLEN are a band who don’t take themselves too seriously. There’s unlikely to be any Grammy nominations in their future, but from reading their biography and watching the accompanying video to their debut single, this is, quite simply, four guys having the time of their life.

We really enjoyed this track! Down The Pen is a quirky, lo-fi, punky mish-mash of dischordant guitars, punishing drums, kinda-shouty vocals (often with a call and response feel). What you’re left with is a relentless wall of sound. Down The Pen was a refreshing change from the parade of artists who take themselves far too seriously and who are hoping to hit the big time with their latest heartfelt and emotional offering.

KLEN describe themselves as “Three guitarists, no bass, and a drummer pummelling from a standing position.”

Down The Pen, their debut single, (released today), is pretty much guaranteed to win over anyone looking for a slightly psychedelic and quirky good time. We’ve taken a look at the band’s social media pages and we can honestly say that if we’ve lived closer, we’d be at one of their live shows in a heartbeat.

To give you some idea of the fun these guys are having, here’s a little snippet from the band members biography;

“Rough Skin – guitar maestro and exfoliator extraordinaire.Bill-upon-Tubs A.K.A. Sticks B. Slippin – half human, half river, half beat-maker… half sonic macerator.Orlando Nice – the third limb, hardcore noise specialist.Melvin Schæfferhoof A.K.A The Financial Ombudsman – Our newest recruit: a cult folk artist who has been hiding in plain sight within the financial regulation sector for a number of years.”

There’s little point us commenting on the production of this track. The charm of this is in the boundless energy and fun that they’re clearly having. Seriously… go watch this video and check these guys out live. We’re really rather intrigued to hear what they’ll do next!
