Here at the Send Me Your Ears studio today, we’ve been listening to Lennee’s latest single, Thinking of You, which is out today (17 December 2022).

Lennee are Leonard Sadowsky: Music and Lyrics Andrew Friedman: Music Brooke Vettesse: Engineer and Producer Alex Frondelli: Drums and are based in Lynbrook, US.

Thinking Of You is about the mental process of an ended relationship: whether it was a lover or a close friend.

When the song starts, we couldn’t help but be reminded of the Sesame Street Theme tune! This is a charming song with a bouncy and positive feel that conveys a sense of hope, despite the sad subject matter. Within seconds, Thinking Of You had all of us in the studio nodding and swaying along to the track.

The vocals have a charming natural feel to them, with some superb, well-placed harmonies. The rise and fall within the track keeps the listener engaged completely.

The drumming on this track is exciting and tight, slightly reminiscent, in places, of Toto. There are some lovely little incidental fills on the guitars and the song just washes away and troubles of the day and will be guaranteed to put a huge smile on your face. This is an utterly delightful lo-fi track which is not too overproduced.

With a long fade out, this is a song that tantalises the listener and makes you want to hit “replay” straight away.

Ideas from our ears

We noticed that the acoustic guitar is resonating a little on the G so a careful surgical EQ cut at 196Hz would help to reduce that peak. A cut around 800-900Hz in the vocal track would reduce some slightly ‘boxy’ tones, probably picked up from recording in a small space. A boost around 4-5kHz in the vocal track would increase the clarity too. As always, these are just some ideas from our ears.

Final thoughts

Lennee’s single, Thinking Of You is a truly captivating song. An enticing song about the lack of closure at the end of a relationship which somehow manages to stay positive and raise the mood of the listener. Definitely an artist to watch.
