Holiday Sketch by !NOJ is the perfect chillout track for a Sunday afternoon lazing by the pool. This is super smooth relaxing music that brings to mind the kind of days that you plan to do absolutely nothing. Holiday Sketch floats you away in a daydream of mellow calm. This is the stuff of yoga classes from the late 90s!
Normally when I’m reviewing new music, I’m looking for hooks; for things that grab my interest; for song development. I listened to this track several times to try to find something that stood out for me and then I became aware – it works well because nothing stands out! If this song had building interest or spectacular drum fills it would be distracting.
This song is, I think, entirely designed to lower your heartbeat and make you just stop for a moment. I realise that in saying that it doesn’t go anywhere, I’ve actually (hopefully) seriously praised the artist. That was their aim (I think!!). This track forces the listener to just stop.
I needed that. Thank you !NOJ. This was a beautifully written, performed and recorded track that really hit the spot.
If I were looking to find something to change about the production, I personally found the kick drum very dominating which detracted slightly from my relaxing by the pool vibe, but that’s just a personal taste thing.
This song would be a great addition to a Chill Out compilation album, such as those of the late 90s early 2000s.
