Here at the Send Me Your Ears studio today, we’ve been listening to the latest single from Richard Lynch. Ohio-based Lynch released “Current Conditions” on June 19, 2023.
For fans of old country, this will tick every single one of your boxes! Lyrically, a song about the ups and downs of a broken relationship, Current Conditions is a classic old country-style track which will play on anyone’s heartstrings.
The moment the song started, we sat back in our chairs and nodded. “Oh yeah, lovely” seemed to be the general consensus! Starting with some beautiful piano and guitar, the song swiftly leads into the vocal section, with Lynch’s vocals crystal clear in the mix and doing everything that fans of Randy Travis, George Jones or George Strait will appreciate.
The subtle rhythm guitar in the track is used percussively and is bright and present. We love the incidental pedal steel guitar which sits perfectly and suits the track to a tee. The incidental piano is also a great touch and helps raise this track head and shoulders above a lot of the new music created in this genre.
We particularly like the attention to detail in the drumming, with sidestick being used in the verses and the full snare in the choruses. The classic percussion triplet into the chorus is another great example of old country stylings.
There are some beautiful and again, subtle harmonies in the choruses and occasionally in the verses that serve to bolster the lead vocal nicely. The all-important second verse adds in some high strings to maintain interest for the listener and the entire song is extremely well-constructed and well scored. We especially liked the use of a simple piano instrumental section to end the song.

Ideas from our ears
To our ears, a small cut around 170Hz on the top snare mic would help balance out the overall snare sound. A small push on the under-snare mic fader would help with some extra brightness and sizzle too. As always, these are just some ideas from our ears.
Final thoughts
Richard Lynch’s, Current Conditions, is a magnificent example of old country-style music with a modern twist and superb production. We’re looking forward to hearing more from this talented Ohio artist.
