Here at the Send Me Your Ears studio today, we’ve been listening to Roni Amir’s single, Fight, which came out on January 13, 2023.
Roni, who hails from Israel, is a producer and songwriter who works Internationally with vocalists from around the world. On this track, the lead vocals are provided by Michael Gildner.
In Roni’s words, “Fight is about the struggle within that, I guess, everybody goes through at some point or another. This song is about the belief in oneself and one’s qualities. From a personal point of view, I can say that there were many times, I had a fight within in order to continue my journey and belief in myself. I had to pick myself up and keep going.
Fight starts strongly with chorus guitars, bass and drums. The bass playing is melodic and interesting and the song develops with incidental guitar fills between the vocals.
The vocals are layered, at times with octave notes, at other times with harmonies, and the whole song takes on a wonderful art rock feel with some superb nostalgia and nods to classic 70s rock. We were reminded in places of Supertramp, Marillion, Mister Mister and just a touch of Johnny Hates Jazz.
We absolutely love the 7/8 chorus sections which seem to ramp up the pace dramatically and force the listener to pay attention. The choruses are catchy and exciting and each section of the song returns effortlessly to the chorus and the change in time signature is almost imperceptible – it is simply apparent to the listener that the excitement in the song has notched up a gear.
This is an exceptionally well-played and well-written song with great attention to detail in the structure and arrangement. It is right up our street and we listened several times without any drop in interest.

Ideas from our ears
A cut at 196Hz would reduce a peak coming from the top snare mic. A cut around 600-700Hz in the vocal track would reduce the occasional ‘boxy/honky’ tone too. A fairly large boost in the top 2 octaves would increase the brightness and presence in the track. Finally, a light compressor/limiter and around 4dB of make-up gain would add some extra thickness as well as raising the overall volume to match similar releases. As always, these are just some ideas from our ears.
Final thoughts
Roni Amir has created a spectacular art rock track which will no doubt delight fans of Supertramp and Marillion, for example. Fight is an exhilarating song which creates a dynamic atmospheric soundscape. One to watch!
