Here at the Send Me Your Ears studio today, we’ve been listening to the latest single from the ever-popular, Marsh Family. Their latest single, My Storybook, is released today, February 17, 2023.
My Storybook celebrates companionship, shared memories, and the simple things that keep us all grounded. Written to mark a 2022 golden wedding anniversary, it features The Marsh Family’s rich range of vocals and harmonies buoyed by a summery ukulele, acoustic guitars and a toe-tapping chorus.
We’ve been keeping a close ear on the Marsh Family since we were first introduced to them in 2022. A family whose music has reached viral proportions on several occasions, raised significant amounts of money for many charities and won the hearts and minds of listeners everywhere they go. The family have received significant publicity for their music and we’re excited to be a part of their journey.
The multi-instrumentalist family consists of parents Ben (46) and Danielle Marsh (45) and their children Alfie (16), Thomas (15), Ella (13) and Tess (11).
My Storybook starts with a ukulele and kick drum and when the vocals come in, the family take turns to take the lead, with the occasional harmony.
There’s some superb rise and fall in this track, and it’s a truly positive feeling number to keep everybody in check as we head out of another long winter.
The Marsh Family constantly surprise us with their ability to pick a genre, and in this case, folk rock is definitely the genre of the day. With the obligatory positive-sounding-song key change, this track has all the elements needed to be yet another Marsh Family winner.
It’s hard to pinpoint the feel of this song. It’s a fun, heartwarming and simple track with heartfelt lyrics and a simplicity within its chord progressions and rhythms, and yet it manages to feel almost euphoric in places (especially at the key change)! Imagine Disney meets Mumford and Sons!!

Ideas from our ears
A hi-pass filter at 40Hz, a boost around 50Hz and a cut around 100Hz would balance out the low end, removing some unnecessary sub-bass rumble and raising the ‘thump’ of the kick drum. A fairly large boost right across the top 3 octaves would increase the presence in the track as well as the brightness and clarity. Finally, a light compressor\limiter with maybe 3dB of make-up gain would add extra warmth as well as raising the overall volume. As always, these are just some ideas from our ears.
Final thoughts
We’re always excited to hear what the Marsh Family are up to, and in My Storybook, they’ve created yet another National earworm to delight their ever-increasing fanbase.
